I recently corresponded with Cosimo, the owner of Fattoria Rignana and his assistant manager, Susanne. I wanted to share with you the information about this wonderful winery so I asked them to describe Rignana and it wines. Here is what they said.

There have been significant weather events that have happened recently that could affect wine. While the massive flooding in Eastern Australia is certainly newsworthy, The Wine Messenger has, thus far, focused on producers in Western Australia, so for us and our consumers, of greater import are the hail storms throughout France (Rhône, Bordeaux and Alsace), and in particular the devastation in Alsace. Upon reading about the weather in Alsace, we immediately attempted to contact our producers in the area.

A few weeks ago I corresponded with Lyne Marchive of Domaine des Malandes to learn more about her winery, their practices, and their recent work. We had some miscommunication on a few questions, and I have been waiting for a clarification, but due to the high heat, their vines have been keeping them very busy this year. So rather than continue to wait, I thought I'd post our Q&A to date, and when she has the time to follow up, I will post that as well.
The original was in French, so we had to translate and edit a bit for clarity, but the responses are hers alone.

I hope you have all enjoyed hearing about our latest vintage. Here is the final installment, for now, on our 2007 reds.

THE 2007 VINTAGE: PART I
OUR PHILOSOPHY
As I mentioned yesterday, at Redgate we produce several different wine styles but the overall philosophy is to produce high quality wines with fruit expression, personality and good value. We aim to “over deliver” we try not to over manufacture our wines but nurture them through the winemaking process. Some wines we make them to be consumed young and enjoyed for their freshness whilst other wines can be cellared.

Greetings from the Redgate Winery in Western Australia. My name is Tania, and I look after the sales and marketing here at the winery. Stephen asked me to take some time to describe our winery, our philosophy and our wines. I hope you enjoy my posts, and if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them as best I can. If you happen to be visiting the area, I encourage you to stop by. We have a reputation for being the friendliest cellar door in Margaret River and a tradition of producing rich fruit flavoured whites, strong elegant reds and a range of dessert wines. A visit to Redgate winery has something for everybody.

On Monday, we received our first external contribution and I couldn’t be happier. Natalya from Wineberry was kind enough to write a little piece on the 2005 Burgundy. Today, I would like to introduce another new guest writer, the first of many, I hope. When I pitched the idea for a Notes section, my goal was to provide new, important and interesting information about us, our wines and issues affecting our business to our current and hopefully future customers. While my posts are…amazing…, my goal has always been to get our various winery partners to write about themselves, and their efforts among the vines.
To kick off the inaugural post for ‘From the Winery,’ I am pleased to present Tania from Redgate Winery in Western Australia. I selected an Australian to lead the way because they have recently completed their 2007 harvest and therefore have some interesting news to relay. In the near future I hope to have some additional new world, southern hemisphere posts, as well as a number from the old world as well. I hope you enjoy the posts and find them interesting, and if you have any questions feel free to ask, and hopefully Tania will be able to answer some if not all of them.
